Marley, akc Reggae Starr

Do you have any stories, tips or hints that you would like to share. I'm sure all those pet owners out there would like to hear both the good and bad things about taking us with them. I'll post them on this site.

After a long walk on the beach don't forget I need a good fresh water rinse. Salt and sand not only make me uncomfortable, but will make the owner's house a mess.

Getting Your "Marley" over to the Bahamas

Unlike many European countries, it is very simple to bring your dog on your Bahamian vacation. Just give yourself 30 to 60 days to follow the procedures for obtaining permits and veterinary certificates.

1. An application for a permit to import a domestic animal. This, as well as the permit, comes from the Department of Agriculture. This is generally arranged on the island you are intending to visit. If in doubt call the Nassau office at 242 325-7502.

2. Mail back the application with an International Postal Money Order in the amount of $10, payable to the Public Treasury, or Department of Agriculture, P.O. Box N 3704 or your home island office.

3. The permit must be accompanied by a valid health certificate from a licensed vet certifying that the animal is at least six months old and has the necessary vaccinations aagainst rabies, along with immunizations against other diseases. This must be presented to authorities within 48 hours of arrival in the Bahamas. The permit details the necessary information from the vet. There is also a form IMP 1 (B),which must be filled out and signed by the vet.

4. The permit itself is valid for up to 90 days after issue.

5. The documents are presented to customs at your first port of entry into the Bahamas, whether by sea or air.

6. Keep copies of all documents. You may need them when returning to the US.
